Beach profiling pt. 2 Ava W.

On Monday afternoon at 12:30 we went to the U-Mass Field station with Matt, Lenny and Marc,Katie's Dad. I would say it felt like it was about 50ยบ out and it was sunny with a little bit of wind. When we got to the station we went into this area where there are apple trees, and on the tops of them they were  yellow and golden at the top, it was pollen. We also found the latitude and longitude of the tree. After that we went down to the beach to start beach profiling. When we got down to the beach Orion took the hammer and started whacking the pole that Sam was holding, then they switched. After we got the pole deep enough in the sand we took the Emory sticks and started to measure.Once we measured it we brought the Emory stick close to us and moved it to where the second emory stick was. We repeated that till we got to partly into the ocean. I did it one time, but it was fun and a new experience. When we were on trial #17 we hit some cobble, causing the results to go a bit off.
When we were packing up to head back to the station we encountered some college students going out to find anything in the water, like plankton. They were going to test the water as well and then look at it under a microscope. I wish I could have watched them do that! After we finished speaking with them we saw a bird fly by with a fish in its mouth! It was super cool!
I had a great time on this field trip and can not wait to do it again in the future.
I would like to thank Lenny for letting us do this at the field station and teaching us about beach profiling as well,I would like to thank Matt for bringing us and also teaching us about beach profiling and I would like to thank Marc Genthner for driving us!!
