By Morgan W.

400 years ago an eleven year old girl named Tiger Lilly lived on  Nantucket with her Wampanoag tribe.  Tiger Lilly was one of the cooks for the tribe.  The men and boys would hunt for meat and she and ten other girls would cook with the women.  The ate deer,  fish, clams, and turkeys.  They also ate berries and corn.  She made her own clothes from animal fur.  She has two older sisters and one younger brother.  Her mother helps gather berries and take care of young children.  Her father is one of the main hunters.  She was a very adventurous girl and was always exploring Nantucket.

One day  Tiger Lilly and her tribe saw dark, grey rain clouds in the sky and could tell there was going to be a storm!  After that  they all heard thunder and everyone ran for their teepees.  The whole tribe lived teepees just big enough for their families.  For three days the storm went on, ruining their vegetable gardens, their food storage, and many of their teepees.  By day two every single garden was destroyed. The wind was blowing at 70 mph  and it was raining and snowing at the same time.  Once the storm was over the snow and rain froze, so everywhere was icy and slippery.  Everything was in ruins.  It would take weeks to build everything back up.

It was the beginning of Spring and everything was repaired from the last big storm.   Tiger Lilly decided to go for a walk and hunt for food . Girls weren't supposed to hunt but she did anyway.  As she was walking she noticed the flowers were budding, the birds were chirping  and all the insects were out and about.
The bees, butterflies, flies and the hummingbirds were  pollinating.  Tiger Lilly also noticed a long trail of squirrel tracks.   She went down the path of tracks and saw a squirrel.  She was about to shoot the squirrel with her bow and arrow but she stopped and smelled the air.  It smelled like seafood, so she ran to the beach and left the squirrel.  Once she got to the beach she found a huge pile of clams, scallops, mussels and oysters.  She realized they must have got washed ashore during the storm, but nobody would have come to this beach because it is pretty far away from the tribe and everyone was busy working. Tiger Lilly collected as many as she could and ran back to the tribe.  Everyone was very happy that night because all of their hard work was finished and they had a feast.  After the feast the tribe made a fire and everyone sat around it.  The kids made jewelry out of the clam, scallop, mussel and oyster shells and the adults told stories!

The next week the weather was really starting to change.  It was getting much hotter, so Tiger Lilly started wearing her light and cooler animal skins.  All Tiger Lilly's  family  members worked very hard except her.  Her oldest sister Daisy was always telling her to  stay focused and to listen.  Her other older sister, RoseY,  is always busy and says  that Tiger Lilly doesn’t work hard enough.  Her younger brother Oak doesn’t really care what Tiger Lilly does, he just tries to stay out of trouble, but sometimes he will go explore with Tiger Lilly.  Her mother, Maple is always very busy and doesn’t have much free time.  Spruce, Tiger Lilly’s  father  is also very busy, but whenever he has free time he will play with Tiger Lilly and her siblings.
Tiger Lilly decided that her family needed a break from working, so she went outside, picked some berries, put them in a basket with some other food and got her family.  It was late afternoon and her and her whole family went for a walk. As they were walking they noticed all the birds flying back from migration.  Then they started to get hungry, so Tiger Lilly took out her basket of food.  She was just about to eat one of the berries she picked, but then she heard, “STOP!”  It was Daisy she said, “Those berries are poisonous, they could kill you”  Then Tiger Lilly took out another berry and said, “Is this one bad to ?” Rose said, “No those ones are called blueberries. They are great to eat!”  All the sisters split up the bad berries from the good ones and threw away the rest.  They also ate pickle weed, also known as glasswort.  The family had a lot of fun throughout their walk and thanked Tiger Lilly for bringing them!

The next couple of days Oak didn’t feel good so he just laid down.  By the fourth day of him being sick, Daisy didn’t feel great either.  She was the one that was taking care of him the most.  Then Tiger Lilly’s whole family didn’t feel good, except for Tiger Lilly.  No one could figure out how Oak got sick.  Finally Tiger Lilly got the tribe doctor to come to their teepee.  The doctor said they have the rare case of the flu.  Soon almost everyone in the whole tribe had the flu.  There were about 75 people in the tribe and three quarters of them got the flu.  It was awful, everyone was sneezing and coughing.  10 people died because there was no cure, but nobody in Tiger Lilly’s tribe died luckily.  For the next three weeks it went on, but eventually it ended.  The next week was just everyone recovering.

One day a group of English sailors came on island.  Everyone was wondering who they were and if they were going to hurt them.  Tiger Lilly’s  family  didn’t like the look of this so they ran away, built a new home deep, deep in the woods and were never seen again!

Today I went down to the woods to collect berries. As I was picking them I heard someone walking. Then I saw her, a “stranger”. She hid behind a bush. I asked her to come out so we could talk. I found out that her name is Anna, she is fifteen years old and loves the island. I knew that if I brought her home my parents would kick her out, so I told her we should meet up again tomorrow at the same place.
On my walk back to the village I saw that some of the trees had buds on them; that meant that it was Spring!!! Yay!! the whole time back I skipped because I had made a new friend and it was Spring!

One Summer.... By Sophia R

I remeber one summer when my sister took me down town. She wasn't able to drive so we took the nerta. She had a bus pass and she gave me four quarters. I wasn't able to reach the machine so she put them in. We sat down. We finally got town. I jumped right out. We walked to the pharmacy. I held her hand and every few steps I did a twirl. We finnally got down town. We ordered a black and white frape, and a extra cup. When it was ready my sister poured some of the frape in a little cup. She made a mess. She walked me to the dock. We drank our frapes there. Then we walk to the bus stop. When the bus was near our stop, she let me pull the rope that tells them we need to get off. We walked home. I was so lucky to have the best big sister ever.

Horses are animals that always make the prettiest sounds.
Horses are Mother Nature’s kid.
Horses are giddy some days and the next soft.
Horses will always be full of action.
Horses were here since the dawn of time, and I hope they will never leave this place called my heart!

Horses I have one last message to say is I heart you guys!

Walk on the Beach

Sara J.
 Made- 5/12/14
 In story- 5/5/1614
As I walked to the beach, I thought about the beautiful things in nature. It was getting very hot out as the days went on and I was counting down the days till I could jump in the sea and swim with my fishy friends. Unfortunately my cat, Pelic, hates water but that is ok because he has other cat friends. A few weeks ago I met this girl, Anna, who is my age and very fun. Every time we meet we talk about our family’s and life and other stuff like that. But what we mostly like to do is go exploring in the forest. I know it is what a 5 year old would do, but it is still really fun, even if you are 15.
As I enter the beach I step on something round. I look down and I have stepped on the “wave riders” (as I call them). The “wave riders” are really called horse shoe crabs, but I named them that when I was little because when they come onto the beach and exit the beach they always glide or “ride” on the waves. This time they were in to lay their eggs, and let me tell you there were thousands of wave riders…..everywhere! I decided to go back home because it was no use trying to step on them to get to the ocean.
I also found out that My hunting lessons is really soon!!

I walked in the hot sand below my feet

I felt the ocean spray hit my face

And I felt the hot summer bright sun

Chapter 5~By Sophia R and Anjali D

Chapter 5
By Sophia R and Anjali D

Cynthia and IDK were quietly munching on some nuts Cynthia had found when they heard a noise that was coming from the heap of Beatle. Jumping up, Cynthia quickly made her way over to them and was just in time to see a head pop up. “Good morning!” Cynthia said brightly. “Mornin’,” he said, his voice laid with a thick Liverpudlian accent, “I had a dream I saw a pretty girl, but I guess its not a dream.” Cynthia blushed and gave a quick giggle until she came back to her sentences. “I’m Cynthia, and you may not believe me , but you and your friends sorta time traveled to the 17th century. I am very sorry to be the one to break it to you.” “What?!?!?!” he said as he jumped up and shook his friends awake. With moans and grumbles, they got up and started to take in their surroundings. “This girl here says it’s the 17th century.” His mates gave him blank confused stares. “Well, she may be a bit confused,” said one, “But first, we need introductions. I’m Paul, and these are me mates John, George and Ringo.” “Hey guys. Its nice to meet you but if we are going to get along i don't like being called confused. ” Cynthia said, pulling IDK up, “This is IDK and I’m Cynthia. You must be the Beatles.” “Yes, we are,” John said in a posh accent, he stared at her she blushed back "well are we just gonna stand here or are we gonna show them around and tell them the safety rules" IDK said then he Turned to the beatles "its not that safe in the 17th centry." Cynthia looked from one beatle to another for anything she stopped just a second to long on John. "Well aren't you gonna freak out i mean you don't know how long we will be stuck here or how much time will go by" Cynthia screamed kinda freaking out. "We are from 1962. We come in peace” John said trying to calm her down. “As do we,” Cynthia said, finally accepting the fact that they weren't freaking out “anyway, I supposed since we are stranded together it would be wise to stick together.” “Like peas in a pod!” The Beatles said in unison, hugging IDK and Cynthia, forming a bear hug. “Okay, not that tight!” Cynthia said, pulling away from them. They all reluctantly let her go except for John, who looked like a child clinging to its mother. “Let go John!” Cynthia said, trying to pry him off. “Never!” John said, hugging her tighter. “Oh well,” Cynthia said, sighing, “So, my Beatle friends, there’s some food over the-” “Foooood!” George screamed and dived down onto the food and started eating it like an animal. “Okay, so there is some food over there-” “Mine!” George hissed, protecting his food. “He really likes food, doesn’t he?” Cynthia asked as they all nodded their heads, “Well, anyways, I’m tired, so I’m probably going to go to bed. Catch ya in the morning!” Cynthia walked over to some moss she collected and laid down on it, trying to go to sleep. “I’m kinda tired too,” John said, walking over to Cynthia. Pushing her off the moss bed, he laid down on top of it as Cynthia got up. Cynthia pushed him off the bed and laid down on top of it. This continued for a while when Cynthia finely gave up and layed down on the cold, hard stone of the cave floor. “Awwwww, look, John made the poor girl sleep on the floor,” George said, “Cyn, come on over here. You can sleep with us!” “Okay,” Cynthia said getting up. John tossed and turned all night, his insides burning with jealousy.

Bruins

THE BRUINS GAME

Today when I got up my dad said he got tickets for us to go to the bruins.  Me and my brother Tommy were really excited.  Then we went to the airport to get on the plane and go to Boston.  One guy said on the plane, “your going to the bruins game,” and I said “yes”.  And after that he said, “I’m so jealous that your going.”  The last thing he said was “ill watch you on tv.”  After we got off the plane, we took a cab over to our hotel that we were staying at.  Then we rested a little bit till the game started.  The game started at  3:00, so then we took a cab to the td garden where the game was being played at.  When we got to the garden at 2:59 the fans were going, “lets go bruins”, lets go bruins”.  After that when we got inside the building me and my brother went to the bruins store before the game started.  After that the game started, it was game time.  One of the bruins defense Johny boychuk, made an assist to loui Eriksson and scored a goal.  It was 1:0 in the 1st period, also one of the Detroit redwings deffensman Tomas tatar hooked, Justin floreak and the bruins would have power-play.  Then after that on the power-play Johny boychuk had a dart, and the bruins scored.  Then the bruins were up 2 nothing in the second period.  In the last minute in the 3rd period Torey krug made an assist to Milan lucic, and lucic scored.  I was really happy that the bruins won the first series.

Morgan's Doggies...

Morgan’s Dogs
By Morgan
In this story I am going to tell you about my three dogs.  I will tell you what they are like in 2014. They are named Lulu, Sonny and Winnie.

Lulu is a German Shorthaired Pointer, who is three years old.  She is a very funny dog, who smiles when she is guilty or excited:)  She also loves to ride in the car. Even when the car isn’t moving she still thinks she is riding.
Sonny is a Toy Poodle, who is seven years old.  He doesn’t really like the other dogs so he growls at them a lot, but he loves humans!  Sonny also thinks he is very big and the boss of everyone, even though he is VERY small.
Winnie is a Wheaten Terrier, who is eight months old.  She is very silly and crazy.  When we make a sound she doesn’t know she tilts her head from side to side and her eyes widen.  She also loves playing with Lulu and riding in the car!

I love my dogs SO much! In my opinion they are the cutest dogs ever!!!!!!!

(Chicken dance, shopping cart, crazy legs…) out of nowhere the lights started to flicker, the music stopped it was all quite, besides ruby and I screaming at the top of our longs. We saw a white shadowy figure it was a sprite. Ruby and I screamed and screamed. Until I heard a sound I had heard it was ‘la la la’ the spite was a party spite so we dance all night long.

Spring By Katherine C.

                                                   SPRING
The roof had just fallen off and I was scared, but the winds had died down.  We leaved to go to a cave that we seen before, then we when to sleep in the of the safety cave.
BANG BANG BANG
“Someone help us” I wake up to see the entrance had been blocked by a bolder, the people had been trying to move it, but it was not worth trying. There is a group of people gathered around a person he was sick, that night he was bitten by a snake, (and then dies). Sadly that was not the worst thing it cartages. It was sad to see people going over to the people they love notable to do anything just to watch. There was a lot of food we had no idea how long we were going to be there. (Luckily my family and I did not get infected)
 3 months later
We have do it the bolder is moved.  It was now spring and it felt good from the warm sun on my pale skin to the birds sing as they soared threw the blue sky in the fresh air as the flowers budded to become beautiful flowers I don’t know it was that made me so happy it just did.  I layer down on the green grass and watched the clouds. It was like time was standing still nothing mattered to me I was too happy.

Little Village~ Chapter 6 by Janie M.

5/1/14
Dear Diary,
Sorry I haven’t written in a while Will, Bea, and I needed a day to settle in to our teepee as the sailors called it. In our mini little village we have jobs!
The men are in charge of hunting and gathering food for us. Will is so excited because he misses hunting dearly. He and Father would go hunting all the time and never once came back without any meat! Impressive, right? I guess he just misses Father. And this is what really connected them.
And Beatrice and I are in charge of cooking and cleaning! Yuck! Just because Bea and I are the only women here doesn’t mean we have to do their dirty work! Oh well before we left England Mother and Father did say there would be consequences, I guess this it! So long…

Some other good news is that the three sailors have set up some basic lodging for me and my siblings! We head to shore in the morning. See you soon.

A Terrible Dream come True~ Chapter 4 by Janie M.

4/27/14
Dear Diary,
I have just woken up from a terrible dream that the ship went through a terrible storm… Oh, wait, that was all real. After the storm the captain said I had passed out from dehydration. Also, some of the sailors’ legs are black, they call it scurvy! It is where you lose color in your legs from not getting enough fruit into your system! But they sent three, healthy sailors to shore in search for some water and berries. They shall return at dawn hopefully with some good news and food and water!
Other than that Will and Bea are fine just in shock from that torturous storm. I shall write in a couple of hours. Till then.

Chapter 4- The Bad Sickness

Chapter 4
Chloe C.
After the storm everything was calm. ( Ha Ha) After about a week a terrible sickness came. Everyone in my family got it but me. My mom did not get it that bad and my dad too, but my brothers got it the worst. My mom had to spend all her time taking care of them and my dad had to to take care of the people that got it and had no one to take care of them. I had to get out of the house so bad, so I went to the beach. The sickness makes the house smell like rotting food, and it makes the boys’ faces look so pale and green and they puke all day and are getting so skinny. They cough and sneeze and cry all night. I feel so bad but hate it so much. Well got to go. Bye.
