Spring~Chapter 3 by Sophia R. and Anjali D.

Chapter 3
By Sophia and Anjoo

The flowers were blooming. We had found a little coverage and had been there since the storm. The snow had now melted and they were sitting in their makeshift den. Cynthia had taken out a GPS from her emergency suitcase and was now locating where they were. “It seems to be that we are in the island of Nantucket,” she stated, looking down at the small screen, “This is when the Europeans came to settle in the USA.” Cynthia had trained for this. She had to learn about lots of history so that if this ever happened, she’d know how to survive. They were now out of food and IDK was starving. “Can we eat?” IDK complained, “I’M HUNGRY!” “Fine, fine,” Cynthia said, “I’ll go hunt down some food.” Cynthia got up and started off in the direction of the time machine, wanting to see what had happened to it.

When she approached the time machine, it was all broken. The sides had been torn away exposing the inside and the damaged keypad. Cynthia stepped closer and noticed that the time machine was shaking. Jumping back, Cynthia stared at the time machine as it started to whirl around. Suddenly four lads exploded out of the time machine and were sent flying into Cynthia. Four very familiar lads.

Snow~Chapter 2 Anjali and Sophia

Chapter 2
By Sophia Reis and Anjoo Dhar

Here we are, stuck out in the snow. IDK and I are sitting in the time machine. Luckily the time machine has an emergency bag so we were able to have a coat and hat. We have a food supply that will probably last us about 5 days and 5 gallons of water. All of our electronics broke in the crash of the time machine so we don’t have a way of knowing where we are. I suddenly wished I paid more attention to the mad scientist when he was telling me about the time machine and how it worked. “Cynthia, I am cold and I want to go home!” IDK complained. “Don’t worry,” Cynthia said sweetly, “we will find a way back home.” I knew I was lying. I was only 23 and I had never got lost before in the 17 century with a child! I knew after the storm I needed to find help and I needed to find it fast.

The storm lasted 11 hours. After it was over we started the long trek out in the fresh snow to find Help! It was on sale!

Mess Ups~ Chapter 1 by Anjali D. and Sophia R.

Chapter 1
By Anjali D. and Sophia R.

A person snuck into a control room and saw a large hunk of metal standing in the middle of the room. Gingerly he opened it, revealing a large panel of various buttons. “I should’ve taken out that trash….” He murmured as he stepped into it and looked down at the flashing buttons. “Now, I want to go back 4 hours, so I’ll just press this…“  The time machine started to tremble and shake, sending I.D.K. crashing into the wall of the machine, pressing a big green button and causing the mechanism to shake more violently. Suddenly the door to the lab burst open and a blonde woman rushed into the room. “Don’t    press     that!” Cynthia shouted as she jumped right in time to catch the now spinning time machine, and then was gone.

These two talented ladies have agreed to serve as editors of the soon to be published book of creative writing from the New School. They'll help compile work from other class mates and will post them here weekly.  It's a big job and I couldn't think of two people better suited to it.

Today I went down to the woods to collect berries. As I was picking them I heard someone walking. Then I saw her, a “stranger”. She hid behind a bush. I asked her to come out so we could talk. I found out that her name is Anna, she is fifteen years old and loves the island. I knew that if I brought her home my parents would kick her out, so I told her we should meet up again tomorrow at the same place.

On my walk back to the village I saw that some of the trees had buds on them; that meant that it was Spring!!! Yay!! the whole time back I skipped because I had made a new friend and it was Spring!

400 Years Ago… Chapter 2 by Morgan W.

400 years ago an eleven year old girl named Tiger Lilly lived on  Nantucket with her Wampanoag tribe.  Tiger Lilly was one of the cooks for the tribe.  The men and boys would hunt for meat and she and ten other girls would cook with the women.  The ate deer,  fish, clams, and turkeys.  They also ate berries and corn.  She made her own clothes from animal fur.  She has two older sisters and one younger brother.  Her mother helps gather berries and take care of young children.  Her father is one of the main hunters.  She was a very adventurous girl and was always exploring Nantucket.

One day  Tiger Lilly and her tribe saw dark, grey rain clouds in the sky and could tell there was going to be a storm!  After that  they all heard thunder and everyone ran for their teepees.  The whole tribe lived teepees just big enough for their families.  For three days the storm went on, ruining their vegetable gardens, their food storage, and many of their teepees.  By day two every single garden was destroyed. The wind was blowing at 70 mph  and it was raining and snowing at the same time.  Once the storm was over the snow and rain froze, so everywhere was icy and slippery.  Everything was in ruins.  It would take weeks to build everything back up.

CHAPTER 2 - Winter Storm by Chloe C.

4:38                                           Chloe                                           4/4/14

Dear Diary,

We arrived a week ago. The first 4 nights were great. On the fifth things got bad. We were at the beach hanging out when the sky suddenly got dark. Black clouds started rolling in. We ran back to our cabin and father closed up the hole in the chimney. Mom grabbed all the blankets and dad got the wood. He opened up the smaller hole and made a fire. We hoped the storm lasted a short time we were wrong.

Dear Diary,

This stupid storm has been going on for 3 days now. We are at the beach now collecting all the fish that washed ashore. When we got home we saw that our garden was wrecked, mother and I got working on it. I love it here.

Winter Storm Sara J

This whole week I was stuck inside our small hut because of a winter storm. This storm was like no other storm though, it was HUGE. Amadeus and my dad got terribly sick and my mother and Lalo took care of them which meant I was in charge of checking the other tribes people. Every day I would go out in the blowing winds and ask every single person how they were and if they needed anything. Of course the tribes elders needed extra care (meaning I would cook them hot soup every night). I know this sounds like I am complaining, but i am not. I had fun talking to all the people about the storm and it is also nice to get away from your family.
About a year ago these huge ships arrived at our bay asking for some food and shelter for the night. I thought that we should have thrown them into the woods to die, but of course my dad had to be nice and let them stay in our houses for a night. turns out they somehow managed to stay in our houses again and again and again and again, until they had stayed for over two weeks. Then my idea came in handy. Ever since then they have been stealing our land and food. The point is we hate each other, so I decided to name them the strangers.

This is the strangers first winter storm, so they were not prepared. They left their animals outside, did not cover up their farm, and made no food in advance for meals. So now they are now starving and animal/farmless. But we are smart, we have a supply of food, we covered up our farms and all the tribes people with animals have made them special things called barns.
